Training in Parapsychology
and Paranormal Investigation
Currently there are no accredited universities or colleges in the United States that offer degree programs in parapsychology. There are, however, a small number of quality educational and training resources available for those interested in learning more about parapsychology.
A short article about getting started in paranormal investigation can be found here.
Here are a list of resources which you might find helpful (listed in no specific order):
Koestler Parapsychology Unit
An Introduction to Parapsychology
Course Leader: Dr Caroline Watt
short course is taught entirely online and is open to anyone regardless
of geographical location. It is a non-accredited course, meaning that
there is no formal assessment or qualification gained, though regular
participation is expected for award of the certificate. The programme
consists of a 'familiarisation' week, followed by ten weekly modules
covering key topics in parapsychology. The course aims to provide a
balanced approach and stimulate critical thinking on each topic."
The International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS)
Near-Death Experiences: An Online Educational Course
Free Online Course
"You are welcome
to take this course with or without CEU credits. This self-guided audiovisual
course will be an experience you will not forget. After an introduction
that summarizes decades of research at major universities and health
care centers, you will hear people who have had near-death experiences
speak for themselves. You will learn from them, in their own voices,
about the typical motifs that occur in NDEs and what it feels like to
experience them. This is the next best thing to being in a room with
a group of experiencers to hear first-hand what it is like to have an
NDE. The course takes a little over one hour to complete."
Parapsychological Studies: The Study of Psychic Phenomena
Local and Distance Learning Program
Course Leader: Loyd Auerbach, MS
"This 60 hour
course is an overview to the field of Parapsychology, and the main areas
of research and investigation: ESP, PsychoKinesis (mind over matter),
and Survival of Bodily Death. Included will be a general discussion
of where the field came from, where the major centers of research are
today, and where the field might be headed. Students will have an opportunity
to review some of the basic research in the field and to apply the theories
and applications to their current helping profession or to pursue parapsychological
field investigations on their own. All courses may be taken individually
for Continuing Education Credit."
The Windbridge Institute
Video Introduction to Modern Mediumship Research
Free Online Program
Julie Beischel, PhD
Institute Director of Research, Julie Beischel, PhD, presented the talk
at the 2009 Society for Scientific Exploration (SSE) meeting in Charlottesville,
VA. This talk is an excellent introduction to modern mediumship research
at the Windbridge Institute."
of Parapsychological Research (AIPR)
Paranormal Investigators and Ghost Hunters
"Loyd Auerbach will be offering mentoring for individuals and groups/teams of investigators and ghost hunters beginning September 2012.
Rather than formal set courses, this mentoring will take the form of a program (or one time sessions) allowing people who investigate paranormal activity and haunted locations or go on ghost hunts to discuss and gain guidance where needed on their specific cases, as well as their methodologies, equipment and evidence with an active parapsychologist who specializing in field investigations."
Association for Research and Enlightenment
"Each week, the mentor, someone well versed in the current eGroup topic, posts a lesson, usually containing written and audio-streamed materials. There are also experiential exercises designed to deepen your understanding of the concepts that have been presented in the lesson. After working with the material and exercises, members of the group are encouraged, but not required, to post questions and comments about their experiences for the mentor and group members to read and respond to. eGroups are perfect for people with busy schedules. There are no specific times you mustbe online to participate."
